Automatic writing involves the psychic ability to produce written words without conscious thought. Why would you want to do this? The most obvious answer is to allow the writing to be a channel between the unseen realm to our physical realm. Automatic writing is a way to communicate with those who have left the physical plane. You may wish to communicate with a loved one, a famous person, a spirit guide or even an invented person. You may want to create a composite spirit to communicate with who will provide guidance and inspiration.
One word of caution though. Since there are many ‘mischievous’ spirits and entities in the unseen world, be careful when doing this, as you may be misled or worse by a malevolent energy. If you are ever told to do something to harm yourself or another person, disregard it. This goes for any psychic communication. Just as there are constructive and destructive people in our physical plane of existence, there are constructive and destructive spirits on the ethereal, non-physical plane. Just because an energy isn’t inhabiting a physical body doesn’t make them any more good or bad than anyone or anything else. And if the ‘conversation’ or writing takes a negative or destructive turn, cease all communication with that spirit. It doesn’t have your best interests at heart.
Another benefit of automatic writing is to gain increased inspiration when writing. If you have writers block, just writing anything that comes through your pen or keyboard is a start. The physical act of moving your fingers on the keyboard may be enough to get the creative juices going again.
Automatic Writing – How To
As with all psychic exercises, you first need to get into a relaxed state of consciousness. Get into a comfortable position while still being able to write or type and make sure that you won’t be interrupted for at least 30 minutes. Next, clear your mind as much as you can and start focusing on your breathing. Psychic Smarts™ teaches you a progressive relation technique to help you get into a meditative state.
After you’re in a relaxed state of consciousness, begin with a question, topic or person in mind. Have a clear intention of what you want. Do you want information or inspiration about a topic? Do you want to communicate with a deceased relative, loved one, famous person or spirit guide? Once you have identified who you want to communicate with, then narrow it down to what specifically you want to know. The more clear your intent, the better the chances that your automatic writing will yield what you want.
Use a pen or typewriter – whatever feels right. If you’re writing, use a pen and paper that feels right. Don’t just pick up any old pen or pencil or use scrap paper. Treat this as a sacred and important moment and make sure that all writing tools are appropriate to the moment. And as you write, be in touch with your feelings more than your mind. Just let it flow and see if this feels right. If it does, continue. If not, try asking a different question, switch from typing to pen and paper, take a break, and otherwise do something different.
Start out by knowing who you want to communicate with. Then ask them a question. Then start writing words. Write whatever comes to your mind. Don’t worry if you have a lot of jibberish at first. Like the water coming out of a pump, the first few gallons will be rusty. But given time, the good stuff will begin to flow – even if it’s a few words. Similar to a dream, most of it may not make sense. However, if you’re able to glean the lesson from the dream or the automatic writing session, it will have been worth the effort. Perhaps there is a phrase, a few words that pop out at you, or something that has relevance. Remember, it is difficult for spirits to communicate with us. If it wasn’t, we’d be hearing from them all of the time. So look for nuances, tidbits of information or anything that makes sense.
Don’t be too quick to judge. Give this process a fair chance. Don’t think that you’re going to break through to the spirit world in five minutes. Try it often, at different times of the day or night, on a different day, when you’re in a particular mood, ask different questions, and even try different spirits. Experiment with this process and see if it’s a good medium or process for you.
When you’re done with your session, thank the spirit, take a few slow deep breaths and thank them again. If this process works for you, take several slow, deep breaths and thank the spirit. Wish them well and tell them that you may be coming back (if that really is the case). Perhaps make a request of them and that you’ll be back to hear what they have to say about it. Finally, take a few more cleansing breaths and remember what worked with this process. Remember the time of day, how you felt, who you communicated with, the pen you used, etc.
